Why is my house a mess? Because we added two to our brood, late Saturday night! We are welcoming Bethany and Mandy (names have been changed), sweet sisters we are fostering for an uncertain amount of time. Some thoughts:
I have had an added measure of patience and an ability to love these girls that I never thought possible. These girls are daughters of our Heavenly Father who need a place to be, how could I refuse to give it? Tonight when Mandy told me she wanted to go home I laid down on the bed next to her and cuddled with her (I do NOT cuddle with other people's children usually). She fell asleep after drooling generously on my shirt and I didn't even mind! (However, my husband requested I change immediately).
My house is kind of messier than ever, and in different ways than ever. For example, the toilet paper reaches to the floor because to tear a bit off, the hobbit-sized one has to pull it a little closer... My house also smells like smoke from their previous home. Febreeze is my best friend!
As you may have noticed from a previous post, our dietary habits are a little outside the norm. Our special guests prefer steak, macaroni and cheese, barbecue, and gasp! soda. We have decided to be rather more flexible in light of their stay. However, Mountain Dew is still a little too mature for our guests. We will be breaking out the Cranberry Juice Cocktail on special occasions. And maybe if I'm feeling really rebelious we'll have Sierra Mist in Dixie cups.
In all seriousness though, we are so happy to have these girls here with us and your prayers and thoughts on their behalf and that of their family is very appreciated. We hope they can be reunited with their family soon and that they will feel the love of their Heavenly Father while they stay with us and throughout their lives.
Love from,
The P's
throughout our marriage, we've been close friends with people who have fostered many children, from the sidelines we've supported cheered, mourned, and loved. I've secretly wanted to be that brave, my husband knows me better than anyone, he gently continues to redirect me from this focus, I suppose for now he wins. good for you. I'm proud of your courage.
ReplyDeleteYou both are amazing people (Elsie too)! What a blessing you will be to those little girls. I wish I lived close enough to get to know these special children of yours (and sisters to Elsie). You are great examples to all of us! Love you so much!!
